Challenge
Design a rule-based, participatory, open-ended process that generates a visual result.
Concept
How does context affect the way people interact with instructions? My team decided to with the concept of a perfect face and see how people perceive the topic. Common categories associated with beauty and perfection are symmetry, sexual dimorphism, averageness, skin color/texture, and cues to personality.
Score
The score was created to be clean and simple to leave room for the participants to interpret the prompt any way they wanted to. We provided glue sticks, different face cutouts, pens, and watercolors.
The results were very interesting and contrasting to what science and media deems perfect, showcasing perfection is in the eye of the beholder.
The image on the left is a compilation of ten faces deemed perfect by social and scientific standards. The image on the right is a compilation of the images we received.
